Mangaluru police to crack down on two-wheeler riders without child safety harness

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 21: The city police will take action against parents riding two-wheelers with children under four years without mandatory safety harnesses, as it violates the Motor Vehicles Act.

Deputy commissioner of police (crime & traffic) K Ravi Shankar stated that, in line with Supreme Court guidelines, two-wheeler riders must use ISI-marked helmets and secure young children with proper harnesses for safety.

He also noted that wearing seatbelts is compulsory for all car passengers, including those in the rear seats. Instead of road checks, AI-powered cameras will be used to detect and penalize traffic violations.

If 10% of such AI driven capabilities were used to develop our roads by the corporator/Government we could avoid road accidents happening. But unfortunately the burden has to be always on the riders/drivers to drive safely on roads with potholes which will never be filled. Even if they are filled, then it would become a pothole in another 2 days. Not sure when Government is even planning to improve road infrastructure. Irrespective of whichever party comes to power penalties will be increased for common people. But no penalties to corporator.

Can the police also crack down on the contractor and the government cicil servants who have laid the foundation of the roads on the city and sub standard quality delivered with pot holes even on concrete roads than put the onus on the public and fine them. The MCC has installed humps every 50 meters in some places which are sure to give slip disc to the 2 wheeler riders which are unscientific and higher than the standard specifications. This was done before the term of the council expires and some of them don't have markings nor road signs. Why is the public only held accountable always and the rest of them dont have any ownership nor responsibility and go Scott free

"One of the most common and dangerous violations seen on the streets of Udupi, Mangalore, and especially on NH66 is riding two-wheelers and driving vehicles in the opposite direction just to avoid taking the nearest U-turn. This reckless behavior is causing serious inconvenience to other motorists and increasing the risk of accidents. These violators are not only endangering their own lives but also putting others at risk. This irresponsible practice must stop immediately."
