Mumbai, Jun 21: Indian food is often seen as rich and indulgent, but fitness coach Raj Ganpath believes it can also be a powerful tool for weight loss if approached mindfully. In a viral Instagram postdated May 21, Raj shared four practical strategies to make Indian cuisine work in favour of fitness and fat loss.

“#4 is controversial but it’s what most people need,” he captioned the video, which encourages viewers to make small but impactful changes to their traditional diet.

Here are the four key takeaways from Raj’s video:

1. Balance your meal:
Raj pointed out that many Indian meals are heavy on carbohydrates and low on protein and vegetables. “You can eat the same food — just reduce carbs and increase protein and veggies,” he said.

2. Include more protein:
“Protein doesn’t need to feel out of place in Indian meals,” Raj advised. He urged people to rethink their recipes by adding protein-rich ingredients like paneer, tofu, meat, lentils, or eggs into everyday dishes like sabzi, poriyal, kootu, or sambhar.

3. Cut down on oil and ghee:
While not demonising fat, Raj recommended optimizing its use. “Indian food uses more fat than necessary. Reducing oil and ghee will not affect taste or satisfaction — trust me on this,” he said.

4. Shift your mindset:
His final point struck a chord online. “Traditional Indian food was meant for a time when people were highly active and needed energy-dense meals,” he said. “Today, we’re sedentary and overfed. What we now need is protein and vegetables. Accept that times have changed and evolve your diet.”

The video has resonated with health-conscious followers, offering a balanced and culturally sensitive approach to nutrition that doesn’t demonize Indian food but encourages smart modifications.
