Bhubaneswar, Jun 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that he declined an invitation from US President Donald Trump to visit Washington DC, opting instead to travel to Odisha—the “holy land of Lord Jagannath.”
Speaking at a public event in Bhubaneswar, PM Modi said, “I was in Canada for the G7 Summit when President Trump called and invited me for discussions and lunch in Washington. I thanked him for the invitation but humbly declined, as I had to return to Odisha, the land of Lord Jagannath.”

This was PM Modi’s first appearance at the anniversary celebrations of the BJP-led government in Odisha. During the event, he also inaugurated development projects worth over Rs 18,600 cr.
The two leaders were expected to meet during the G7 Summit in Canada, but Trump left the summit early amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri later stated that PM Modi had extended an invitation to President Trump to attend the upcoming Quad Summit in India, which is expected to take place later this year.
