Mangaluru, Jun 20: The department of radiation oncology at Kasturba Medical College Mangaluru, in collaboration with Bebig Medical Systems, proudly announces a high-level international training programme on the SagiNova Brachytherapy System. This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening industry-academia collaboration aimed at advancing cancer treatment practices globally.
As part of this programme, a delegation from the National Cancer Centre, Mauritius, including oncologists and medical physicists, will be visiting KMC Hospital Attavar from June 23 to 27 to undergo comprehensive training on advanced brachytherapy techniques. The five-day hands-on workshop will cover both hardware and software components of the Bebig system and include clinical applications in brachytherapy.

Brachytherapy is a special type of cancer treatment where a high dose of radiotherapy is given to a small area through special applicators. This method allows doctors to treat the cancer more accurately while protecting the healthy parts of the body. It is commonly used for treating cancers like cervical, prostate, and breast cancer. KMC Hospital Attavar was the first hospital in the region to start using advanced cobalt-based brachytherapy equipment, showing its early leadership in bringing modern and effective cancer care to patients.
KMC Hospital Attavar Oncology Centre, known for its excellence in oncological services and education, is proud to host this global knowledge exchange, which aligns with its mission to promote clinical innovation and capacity-building in cancer care. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to improving patient outcomes and enhancing technical expertise across borders.
This training programme is a testament to the growing importance of international cooperation in medical education and is expected to pave the way for future partnerships in research, training, and technology transfer.
