Udupi, Jun 20: “Whenever Chakravarthy Sulibele speaks, he quotes the Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, and Mahabharata. But everyone in Karnataka knows the extent of lies he tells whenever he opens his mouth. He is an expert in turning black into white and white into black,” said Udupi district in-charge minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar.

Lakshmi Hebbalkar, minister for women and child development, empowerment of differently abled and senior citizens, and Udupi district in-charge, addressed the media during her visit to Udupi on June 20. She said, “The Congress party has always upheld all forms of freedom, including freedom of speech. In the history of this country, it is the Congress that has safeguarded the Constitution. We do not need lessons from Chakravarthy Sulibele. Senior police officers have informed us that Sulibele will be in Udupi district for three days. While he is free to travel here, he should refrain from spreading hatred, falsehood, and poisonous ideas. Udupi is a peace-loving district.”

Speaking about the BJP MLAs’ opposition to the Special Task Force in Coastal Karnataka, she said, “On one hand, the BJP incites communalism and then claims otherwise. On the other, they oppose the deployment of an anti-communal task force. This contradictory behaviour clearly exposes the mindset of BJP MLAs to the people of Udupi.”

Commenting on the 5 percent increase in housing allotments for minorities, Minister Hebbalkar stated, “This is a scheme implemented by the central government. We have only approved it in the cabinet by following their directives. BJP leaders are trying to find faults where there are none. First, they criticized the guarantee schemes, saying they would not succeed. Then, even after we won 136 seats, they claimed our government would not last more than six months. BJP is playing with people’s emotions. They have no real issues to talk about and are simply looking for ways to mislead the public.”

Addressing the issue of heavy rainfall in the district, the minister said, “There is more rain than expected this year. I have advised officials to take precautionary measures. Compared to previous years, we are better prepared to handle any situation this monsoon.”
