Dewas, Jun 20: A private medical college in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh has become the focus of two serious criminal investigations this week, involving allegations of rape and attempted sexual assault on campus.
A 35-year-old doctor, Dr. Roopam Jain, was taken into custody after allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl at his residence located within the Amaltas Institute of Medical Sciences campus. The teenager had reportedly consulted Jain two months ago for medical care and was invited back for a follow-up and counseling. According to authorities, he took her to his quarters and committed the assault. Charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been filed.

In a separate and equally alarming incident, an unidentified man allegedly infiltrated the girls' hostel on the same campus and entered a student’s room via an air duct. He held a knife to the MBBS student’s throat and attempted to rape her. Displaying remarkable presence of mind, the student feigned a fainting episode and requested water—taking the opportunity to escape and alert others when the intruder stepped out.
While Dr. Jain was reportedly dismissed from duty on June 5 after earlier complaints, the attempted assault has intensified concerns about campus safety. A second FIR has been lodged, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the intruder. Meanwhile, students have launched protests, demanding immediate security upgrades and justice for the victims.
