Mangaluru: Case of drunk driving, overspeeding registered in fatal Jeppinamogaru accident

Mangaluru, Jun 19: A case has been registered at the Mangaluru South Traffic Police Station in connection with a fatal road accident that occurred on National Highway 66 near Jeppinamogaru in the early hours of June 18.

The accident took place around 1.30 am when a car (KA-19-MN-6698) lost control and rammed into a road divider. Two occupants – Aman Rao (22), who was driving, and Omshree (24) – died on the spot. Two others – Ashish (23) and Jerry (23), a foreign national – sustained injuries.

Following the investigation, it was revealed that the driver, Aman Rao, was under the influence of alcohol and was driving at excessive speed. The case has been registered under Crime No. 152/2025 invoking Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 183 and 185 of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is in progress.

Police advisory to the public

In light of this incident, the Mangaluru City Police have issued a public advisory highlighting the dangers of drunk driving and overspeeding:

  1. Driving under the influence of alcohol significantly increases the risk of accidents, potentially resulting in fatalities and lifelong trauma for families.

  2. As per Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, those caught drunk driving may be fined up to Rs 10,000.

  3. Overspeeding, a leading cause of road accidents, is punishable under Section 183 of the Act. Fines range from Rs 1,000 for LMVs to Rs 2,000 for HMVs.

The police have appealed to the public to drive responsibly, avoid drunk driving and excessive speed, and ensure the safety of all road users.

    No words.They themselves caused it .Now sufferers are their parents and relatives familys.RIP.Hope in future our youngsters will keep this in mind.One can enjoy parties also without drinks and danger to life.May their souls rest in peace.
