Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jun 18: In a heartbreaking incident, a 46-year-old farmer ended his life by hanging himself outside the office of a cooperative society in Maharashtra’s Beed district after repeated failed attempts to recover his fixed deposit.
The deceased, Suresh Jadhav, a resident of Khalegaon in Georai tehsil, had invested Rs 11.50 lac with Chhatrapati Multistate Co-operative Society in 2020 after selling 3.5 acres of his farmland to secure the educational future of his children. According to police, he was found hanging from an iron angle near the society's Gevrai branch early Wednesday morning.

Jadhav's daughter Sakshi, who aspires to become a doctor, said her father had been pleading with the cooperative society for two years to return the deposit to support her and her brother’s higher education. “We did not get the money back, and we lost our father,” she said, recalling his efforts and sacrifices.
According to the FIR lodged by Jadhav’s wife, six months ago he had even taken a bottle of poison to the society’s office, threatening to die if the money was not returned. The then chairman, Santosh Bhandari, gave Rs 2.5 lac and promised the rest would be returned in two months—a promise that was never fulfilled.
On Tuesday, Jadhav again visited the Gevrai branch with his family. The branch manager allegedly behaved rudely and threw them out of the office. Hours later, Jadhav ended his life.
Police have registered an abetment to suicide case against Bhandari, though no arrest has been made yet. Beed SP Navneet Kanwat urged citizens to verify institutions before investing and to approach police instead of taking extreme steps. “Police will help in a legal way in such cases,” he assured.
