Mangaluru, Jun 16: ‘A cleaner tomorrow starts with saying no to plastic today.’

St Theresa School celebrated environmental week from June 5 to 14 with great enthusiasm, centered around the global theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution.’ With a strong focus on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainability, the school organized a variety of creative and educational activities to raise awareness and foster environmental responsibility among students. The entire program was thoughtfully initiated and coordinated by Roopa and Mangalashree, whose efforts brought together students from all grades to take part in this important mission.

The celebration began with a special general assembly on World Environment Day, where students took an environmental pledge, delivered thought-provoking speeches, and watched an impactful drama under the guidance of sir Rajesh emphasizing the harmful effects of plastic pollution. Students from all the classes actively participated in the ‘Plant for Planet’ initiative and the ‘Eco Family’ project by ENA students of class 10, highlighting the role of families in building a greener future.

Our little learners from KG were engaged in ‘Sort It Out,’ a hands-on activity teaching them how to separate waste properly. Primary students brought their creativity to life through ‘Green Gazette,’ where they designed eco-newsletters, and ‘Upcycling from Waste,’ transforming discarded items into useful and decorative products. A major highlight was the Eco Fashion Show, where students from different houses showcased imaginative outfits made entirely from recyclable materials, promoting the idea of sustainable fashion.

The week concluded with the ‘Eco Spark Closing Ceremony,’ a grand celebration of the students’ efforts and learning. During the ceremony, the principal Sr Lourdes addressed the students, appreciating their wholehearted participation and reminding them that protecting our planet is not a one-day activity, but a lifelong commitment. ‘Let every small step you take be it refusing a plastic bag, planting a tree, or saying no to litter become a habit that shapes a better future.’

The programme ended on a grateful note with a vote of thanks delivered by Arav from class 10, who acknowledged the efforts of all students and teachers for successfully organizing the environmental week at St Theresa School a resounding success and a step forward in our collective journey to beat plastic pollution.
