Shimla, Jun 14: In a swift operation, Shimla Police arrested 23-year-old Arjun Sharma from the outskirts of Panchkula in the early hours of Saturday, just hours after he allegedly murdered his cousin Akash Sharma at a Shimla hotel.
According to police, Arjun and Akash, residents of Panchkula and Chandigarh respectively, had checked into Hotel Grand Majestic near Dhalli Tunnel on June 11 to celebrate a birthday. However, what began as a celebration turned fatal after an argument escalated in the early hours of June 13.

Arjun is accused of slitting Akash’s throat and striking him on the head with a beer bottle before fleeing the scene on his motorcycle.
The murder came to light when Arjun reportedly confessed the crime to his family. Alarmed, they alerted the hotel receptionist around 10 am on Friday. Using a master key, staff found Akash lying dead on the bed. Police were immediately called in.
Based on technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, the Shimla Police, with support from Panchkula Police, launched a coordinated manhunt and nabbed Arjun within hours.
A forensic team has collected evidence from the hotel room, and further investigation is underway.
