Washington, Jun 14: A bizarre twist preceded US President Donald Trump’s planned military parade on Saturday, when a suspicious Craigslist ad offered $1,000 in cryptocurrency to "seat-fillers" for the event—sparking confusion and online chatter.
The parade, slated to take place on Constitution Avenue to mark the 250th Army Day and Trump’s 79th birthday, was allegedly the focus of a post by “T-Mellon Events” seeking participants to boost “attendance perception.”
The ad claimed participants would be paid by “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT LLC,” a shadowy firm with ties to the meme cryptocurrency $TRUMP. Participants were told to dress in red, blue, and white, with gold accessories, and people of color were especially encouraged to sign up for “maximum perception control.”
It promised a “flat daily fee,” fast food, soda, and a chance to be prominently featured on screens during the televised event.
However, netizens were quick to debunk the ad, pointing out its use of a stock image from a Russian military parade and the absence of any real footprint for either the event firm or the payment company. Experts and social media users have since labeled the ad a hoax, likely created to mock the parade and Trump’s highly orchestrated public appearances.
Despite the online farce, the parade is set to continue as planned, with ticket registrations available online. Organizers have yet to respond to the spoof ad controversy.
