Udupi, Jun 14: Two students from Karkala taluk are set to represent India at an international-level science conference scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from June 15 to 21.

Amulya Hegde, a high school student from the Government Pre-University College, Kukkuje, and Nikita Mulya, another young science enthusiast, were selected for their innovative science projects at the national-level INSPIRE competition held in Delhi on September 21, 2024. Their participation was guided by teacher Suresh Marakala.

Amulya Hegde, daughter of Arun Hegde and Anita Hegde of Bairampalli village in Udupi taluk, is currently pursuing her second-year PUC in the science stream at Amrita Bharathi PU College, Hebri. Her project, Flood Detector Pole, won a bronze medal at the national competition. "The flood detector pole was developed to alert people and save the lives of both humans and animals during floods. My dream is to become an IPS officer," Amulya shared.

Nikita Mulya, daughter of Krishna Mulya and Vanitha Mulya from Bairampalli, is a second-year science student at Bhuvanendra College, Karkala. Her project, Ropo Meter, was designed to assist in measuring wires in electrical shops. "The Ropo Meter accurately measures wire for commercial use and drew attention at the national competition. I aspire to become a doctor in the future," Nikita stated.

Both students are proud representatives of their region and will now take their projects to the international stage in Japan, showcasing their talent and innovation to the world.

Congratulations to the both the girls. However i feel the two projects are of high school level and PUC students should think bigger, innovative projects. Ropo meter type devices are already in use in wire and cable manufacturing facilities.
