Cupertino, Jun 13: After months of anticipation and speculation, Apple’s much-hyped AI-powered Siri upgrade—unveiled during WWDC 2024 as part of the iOS 18 preview—is finally inching closer to reality, though on a significantly delayed timeline. According to a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant is now internally targeting a Spring 2026 rollout, with the advanced Siri version expected to debut with the iOS 26.4 update.
The reimagined Siri, built on Apple’s proprietary “Apple Intelligence” framework, promises contextual awareness, seamless natural language support, and smarter user interaction. While iOS 18 did deliver several AI features to users, this core transformation of Siri was noticeably absent, prompting both industry insiders and loyal Apple users to question the delay.
Speaking at the recently held WWDC 2025, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi clarified that the revamped Siri “needed more time to reach our high quality bar.” The company, known for its tight-lipped yet perfection-driven approach, faced significant technical hurdles while integrating the legacy Siri architecture with the new AI model. The attempt to fuse two systems—one for basic tasks and another for advanced AI functions—reportedly introduced major bugs, forcing engineers to rebuild Siri from scratch.
Sources within Apple say the internal tug-of-war has added to the delays. While the AI development team is reportedly frustrated with the marketing department for “overhyping” Siri’s capabilities during keynotes, the marketing wing insists it only communicated timelines approved by software engineers.
As per current plans, Apple might preview the upgraded Siri alongside the launch of the iPhone 17 series this September. However, insiders caution that this is speculative and subject to change depending on the development pipeline’s progress.
If Apple sticks to its roadmap, Spring 2026 could mark a critical milestone in the company’s AI ambitions—potentially redefining how users interact with iPhones through a more intuitive, smarter, and context-aware Siri.
