Mumbai, Jun 8: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday steered clear of commenting on media speculation surrounding a possible political patch-up between Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and his estranged cousin, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray.
“I have no interest in being ‘begani shaadi mein Abdullah deewana’,” Fadnavis remarked, quipping that any reunion between the two was their personal and political matter. “These are two parties and two brothers — let them decide what they want. Once they do, we will react. Until then, let the media keep flying its kite of speculation.”
He added that while actual talks between the Thackerays remain unclear, the media seemed far more engaged in the story. “There’s more noise in the newsrooms than any real political movement,” he said.
Raj Thackeray broke away from the Shiv Sena in 2006 to form the MNS, leading to a long-standing political and personal rift between the cousins.
Earlier in the day, Fadnavis also spoke about the promising future of ethanol in India. Lauding Pramod Chaudhary of Praj Industries, he said, “Chaudhary has shown how polylactic acid, used to make biodegradable plastics and once imported, can now be produced domestically. This could be a game-changer for our environment and economy.”
He suggested that a detailed policy proposal could help the state encourage this industry, especially in times of sugar surplus. “The environment is under serious threat from non-degradable plastic. A gradual shift to eco-friendly alternatives is essential,” he noted.
Highlighting the Modi government’s success, Fadnavis added, “With 20% ethanol blending now achieved, India has saved lakhs of crores in foreign exchange. This is a huge step forward.”
