Udupi, June 6: In a concerted effort ahead of the Bakrid festival, the district task force appointed by the Udupi deputy commissioner has conducted operations across multiple police station limits in the district, successfully rescuing a total of 32 stray cattle.

The rescued animals have been relocated to various recognised goshalas (cow shelters) for proper care and protection. Specifically, 15 cattle were shifted to the Gantidham Goshala in Teggarse village, 17 to the Hebri Goshala, one to the Hiriyadka Temple Goshala, two to the Nanchur Goshala, and another two to the Ahimsa Goshala in Mudaru.

The district administration’s proactive initiative has been undertaken to ensure animal welfare and maintain law and order during the festive period. Officials stated that the drive was carried out in view of the sensitivities surrounding the festival and to prevent any potential untoward incidents.

“Ahead of Bakrid, we have intensified monitoring and ensured that all rescued cattle are safely housed in registered shelters,” said a member of the task force, emphasising the administration’s commitment to both legal compliance and public harmony.

The operation reflects a broader strategy by local authorities to reinforce animal protection norms and pre-empt conflicts during religious observances.
