Kasargod, Jun 6: In a heart-wrenching incident, a two-year-old girl lost her life after a car overturned near Karle in Mulleria, close to Adur, on Thursday evening.
The deceased child has been identified as Hridyananda, daughter of M Hari Das and Sreevidya from Bellige. The tragic accident occurred around 6 pm when the family was returning home after a visit to the local market.
The mishap took place on the road leading to their house. As the car failed to start, the family attempted to push it. During this process, the vehicle suddenly moved forward, and the toddler got trapped under the car.

Although the mother was thrown aside in the commotion and escaped with minor injuries, Hridyananda was caught underneath the vehicle. The accident occurred on a sloped road where a trench had been dug across to drain rainwater. The car’s tyre got stuck in the trench, which caused the engine to shut down. This led the mother and children — Hridyananda and her elder sister Devananda — to exit the car.
While Devananda remained inside the vehicle, the car unexpectedly restarted and moved forward as it was being pushed. Hridyananda, who was in front of the car, was tragically caught underneath.
Locals rushed to the scene and pulled the child out, immediately taking her to the hospital in Mulleria. However, she could not be saved.
The body has been kept at the mortuary of Kasargod general hospital. Adur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
