New Delhi, May 31: Amid a rise in Covid-19 concerns, seven deaths linked to the virus were reported across various states, with comorbidities playing a major role in most cases, according to Health Ministry data.

In Delhi, a 60-year-old woman who had undergone laparotomy for acute intestinal obstruction succumbed, with Covid-19 noted as an incidental finding. Gujarat reported one death, with details yet to be confirmed.

Karnataka recorded the death of a 70-year-old man suffering from multiple complications, including diabetes, hypertension, and ischemic heart disease. His Covid-19 status is pending RT-PCR confirmation.

Maharashtra reported two fatalities: a 67-year-old male with pneumonia, ARDS, and comorbidities; and a 21-year-old male with diabetic ketoacidosis and a lower respiratory infection. Punjab saw the death of a 39-year-old man with Hepatitis B and respiratory distress, while Tamil Nadu recorded a fatality involving a 60-year-old man with diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease.

Kerala currently leads with 1,147 active Covid-19 cases, and the state is reconciling its mortality data.

Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav on Friday assured that the Centre is fully prepared to face any situation.

“Our Health and AYUSH departments are on alert. We’ve reviewed the infrastructure created during previous Covid waves, including oxygen plants and ICU beds. Preparations are underway, and our systems are ready,” Jadhav told.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to remain vigilant.
