New Chandigarh, May 31: Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya lauded star bowler Jasprit Bumrah for his match-winning spell in the IPL 2025 Eliminator, which powered the five-time champions to a 20-run victory over Gujarat Titans.
Bumrah’s pinpoint yorker dismissed Washington Sundar at a crucial stage, while his final over cost only nine runs, effectively sealing the win. Mumbai will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Pandya compared Bumrah’s value to Mumbai’s real estate prices: “It’s very simple: whenever you feel the game is going far [away], just get him. It’s like Mumbai housing prices — he’s that expensive!” he said with a smile during the post-match presentation.
He also credited former MI skipper Rohit Sharma’s composed knock of 81 off 50 balls, which included several lifelines courtesy of dropped catches, for setting up the team’s competitive total of 228.
“Today, after having that luck going my way, I knew I had to make the most of it. I’m glad I could do that, and get the team into a good position,” Rohit said.
Sundar and Sai Sudharsan had given Gujarat Titans a promising start, but Bumrah’s return shifted the momentum decisively in Mumbai’s favor.
With this victory, Mumbai Indians move closer to yet another IPL title, while Gujarat Titans’ journey ends with the loss.
