Poonch, May 30: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday hailed the Border Security Force (BSF) for its swift and courageous response to Pakistani aggression, stating that the destruction of 118 enemy posts in just three days stands as a testament to the bravery and professional excellence of the force.
During an interaction with BSF jawans in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, Shah said the BSF retaliated strongly to border shelling earlier this month, inflicting severe damage on Pakistan’s border surveillance and communication network.
"When Pakistan responded to our anti-terror operations by attacking our borders and civilian areas, it was the BSF jawans of the Jammu Frontier who retaliated by destroying and damaging over 118 posts,” Shah said, adding that the dismantling of enemy surveillance systems would take years to rebuild.
Quoting BSF Director General, the Home Minister said that Pakistan had suffered one of the biggest blows to its communication setup, crippling its ability to wage an information-based war.
Shah, who reviewed the overall security situation and Amarnath Yatra preparedness during his two-day visit, also met families affected by Pakistani shelling. He praised the BSF for maintaining a high level of preparedness even during peacetime.
“Your accurate intelligence and timely response show that you are alert not only during conflict but also during periods of calm. Such bravery reflects the spirit of nationalism and dedication to supreme sacrifice,” he told the jawans.
The home minister commended the BSF’s relentless service across challenging terrains—deserts, forests, and mountains—stating they stand as India’s true first line of defence.
Referring to his visit to Poonch despite poor weather conditions, Shah said, “I was told the weather was not favourable. Still, I decided to go by road and return only after meeting our brave jawans.”
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the nation, Shah said, “The cheer for BSF is as loud as for the Army, and that is a matter of great pride for all of us.”
He reaffirmed that the courage and sacrifices of BSF personnel remain a symbol of India’s steadfast commitment to national security.
