Argentina, May 28: In a pulsating encounter at the Four Nations Tournament in Rosario, the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team edged past hosts Argentina 2-0 in a dramatic shootout after both sides were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Argentina struck first, with Milagros Del Valle finding the net in the 10th minute to give the hosts an early lead. India responded with determination, and their persistence paid off when Kanika netted the equaliser in the 44th minute, ensuring the contest remained alive going into the final quarter.

With no further goals scored in the remaining time, the match headed into a tense shootout. Indian skipper and goalkeeper Nidhi emerged as the star of the evening, pulling off four remarkable saves in a row to shut out the Argentine attackers. Lalrinpuii and Lalthantluangi then stepped up with nerves of steel, converting their chances to hand India a well-deserved victory.

This win comes hot on the heels of India’s spirited 3-2 comeback triumph against Uruguay in their previous outing. Sonam (21') and Kanika Siwach (46', 50') were the scorers in that encounter, as India rallied from behind twice, showcasing their grit and fighting spirit. Uruguay’s Milagros Seigal (3') and Agustina Mari (24') had earlier threatened to tilt the balance in their favour.

With back-to-back wins under their belt, the Indian eves will look to maintain momentum as they gear up to take on Chile in their next clash on May 30. The tournament is proving to be an ideal stage for the young squad to hone their skills and gain valuable international exposure against quality opposition.
