Kanpur, May 26: In a shocking case from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, two engineers reportedly died within 48 hours of undergoing a hair transplant surgery performed by a dentist. The accused, Dr Anushka Tiwari, who was allegedly on the run, surrendered at a local court on Monday and has been sent to jail, officials said.

The case came to light after Jaya Tripathi, wife of engineer Vinit Kumar Dubey, filed a police complaint on May 9, nearly two months after the surgery. According to her, the procedure took place on March 13, and her husband died on March 15 while undergoing treatment at another hospital.

Tripathi alleged that the police initially failed to act on her complaint, forcing her to approach the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell. Only after her intervention did the police register a case at the Kakadev police station.

“There are serious allegations against Anushka Tiwari, a dentist, who performed a surgery outside her professional domain. We have sufficient evidence and prima facie she is guilty,” said government lawyer Dilip Singh. “She surrendered in court today and has been sent to jail.”

Tripathi recounted that she received a call on March 14 informing her of her husband’s deteriorating condition and facial swelling. She alleged that Dr Tiwari admitted during a late-night call that she had conducted the surgery without any preliminary medical tests.

Tripathi rushed her husband to another hospital, where he passed away the next day. She also claimed the doctor disappeared following his death.

Police have confirmed they are collecting scientific evidence, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death and extent of medical negligence.

Meanwhile, another engineer is also reported to have died under similar circumstances within the same timeframe, raising further questions about the clinic’s operations and the qualifications of the individuals involved.
