Bengaluru, May 24: A routine grocery delivery turned violent in Bengaluru’s Basaveshwaranagar when a Zepto delivery executive allegedly assaulted a customer over a dispute concerning the delivery address, leaving the latter seriously injured.

The incident, which occurred earlier this week, was caught on CCTV and has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage on social media.

According to reports, the delivery executive, identified as Vishnuvardhan, had arrived to deliver groceries at the residence of 30-year-old businessman Shashank S. When Shashank’s sister-in-law stepped out to receive the order, the executive allegedly berated her for providing an incorrect address.

The situation took a violent turn when Shashank intervened to question the delivery agent’s conduct. Footage from a security camera captured the shocking moment the executive lost his temper, punched the customer, and hurled abuses, while the women present, including the sister-in-law, tried to defuse the situation.

Shashank was left with a swollen eye and, according to reports, a skull fracture. A photo of his injuries has since circulated online, drawing attention to the severity of the assault.

Following the incident, Zepto issued a statement expressing regret, stating, “We regret any inconvenience caused. Professional conduct is essential to us. We’ll make sure this is addressed.”

The local police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

The incident has raised serious concerns about delivery personnel’s training and background checks, with many citizens calling for stricter oversight and accountability in the fast-growing quick-commerce sector.
