New Delhi, May 15 : As the Indian Men’s Hockey Team gears up for a high-octane European tour in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2024-25, forward Selvam Karthi is making a determined return to the national setup—bringing with him a renewed hunger for games, goals, and glory.
Karthi, who last featured in the Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai in 2023, expressed his elation and focus after being drafted into the national camp. “It feels great to be back, but now the real work begins. My target is to break into the final squad for the Pro League and make my mark in the upcoming international assignments,” the Tamil Nadu-born striker said with quiet resolve.
India is set to face formidable hockey powerhouses including Olympic champions Netherlands, as well as Belgium, Australia, and Argentina. With the European leg posing stiff challenges, the 23-year-old Karthi is aiming to seize the moment. “I’ve played in Europe earlier, so I’m familiar with the conditions. My objective now is simple—perform well, score crucial goals, and make an impact for India,” he added.
Reflecting on his journey back into the squad, Karthi credited the coaching staff for their support. “The coaches told me to work extensively on my fitness and finishing. I’ve been training consistently and also taking on extra sessions at camp to sharpen those areas,” he shared.
Karthi also highlighted the stiff competition the team will encounter. “Every match will be tough. The Netherlands are Olympic gold medallists, while Australia, Belgium, and Argentina are known for their speed and skill. We’ll have to be tactically sound and adapt quickly on the field,” he noted.
With the countdown underway for India’s European test, Karthi’s grit and optimism reflect the spirit of a player eager to contribute and carve out a permanent place in the squad.
“Right now, it’s all about the effort—both individual and team. I’m committed to giving my all so that I can travel with the team and help deliver positive results,” he concluded.
