Abu Dhabi, May 14: Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, welcomed Hussein Al-Sheikh, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation and Vice President of the State of Palestine, in a meeting held today in Abu Dhabi.
At the start of the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah extended his best wishes to Hussein Al-Sheikh, wishing him success in his important role.
The discussions primarily focused on the pressing regional developments, with particular emphasis on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The two leaders highlighted the urgency of increasing international efforts to address the immediate humanitarian needs of civilians in Gaza.
Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE's strong and enduring support for the Palestinian people, stressing the country’s steadfast commitment to their legitimate rights and aspirations for lasting peace, stability, development, and dignity.
The UAE Foreign Minister underscored the critical need for global cooperation at this juncture to alleviate the suffering in Gaza, advocating for a sustainable humanitarian response to assist those facing severe hardship. He reiterated the UAE’s readiness to offer all necessary humanitarian support to the Palestinian people.
Moreover, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the importance of ending extremism, violence, and regional tensions. He called for a renewed political effort to resume negotiations aimed at achieving a comprehensive peace agreement, rooted in the “two-state solution.” He expressed hope that such efforts would reinforce regional stability and contribute to ensuring long-term security for all.
The meeting was also attended by Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, Minister of State, and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs.
