New Delhi, May 13: Australia, the reigning champions of the World Test Championship (WTC), have officially announced a formidable 15-member squad for the WTC final clash against South Africa, scheduled to be held at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground from June 11, 2025.

The announcement was made by Cricket Australia on Tuesday, May 13. Among the notable inclusions are all-rounder Cameron Green, making a comeback after undergoing back surgery, and left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann. Brendan Doggett, the standout performer in the Sheffield Shield final, has been named as a travelling reserve.

Skipper Pat Cummins and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood have returned to full fitness after missing recent tours due to injuries. Both players featured in the Indian Premier League ahead of this crucial assignment and are expected to spearhead the bowling attack.

The squad remains largely unchanged from the side that triumphed 3-1 over India and 2-0 against Sri Lanka in recent Test series, reflecting the selectors' confidence in a settled unit.
Chairman of Selectors George Bailey stated, “The team has shown consistent performances throughout the WTC cycle. Our victories against India and Sri Lanka highlight our strength, and now we look forward to defending our title against a resilient South African side.”

Australia enters the final with a win percentage of 67.54, just behind South Africa, who topped the standings with a 69.44 percentage after winning eight of their 12 Tests.

The same squad will also travel to the West Indies for a three-match Test series post the WTC final. Beau Webster continues as the preferred all-rounder, while young batter Sam Konstas also finds a place in the side after an impressive domestic season.

Australia’s Squad for the WTC Final:

Pat Cummins (Captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Matt Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster.

Travelling Reserve: Brendan Doggett.

Cricket fans around the globe await a high-octane clash at Lord’s, as Australia aims to etch its name in history by becoming the first team to clinch multiple WTC titles.
