PM Modi to address Nation tonight after ceasefire following Operation Sindoor

New Delhi, May 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm today, marking his first public statement since the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was announced following four days of escalating hostilities triggered by Operation Sindoor.

The operation, launched on May 7, was India’s sharp response to the brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives including 24 Indian tourists, one Nepalese citizen, and a local pony handler who died trying to protect the visitors. Lashkar-e-Taiba, operating through a proxy outfit, claimed responsibility for the attack, with three of the five terrorists identified as Pakistani nationals.

In retaliation, India struck nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, killing around 100 terrorists, including top operatives linked to major past attacks like Pulwama (2019) and the IC 814 hijacking (1999). Among those neutralised were Lashkar’s Mudassar Khadian Khas and Abu Akasha, and Jaish-e-Mohammed’s Yusuf Azhar (Masood Azhar’s brother-in-law), Hafiz Jaleel, and Mohammad Hassan Khan.

Following India’s precision strikes, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks across Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab. India’s counter-strikes targeted key military installations and radar sites deep inside Pakistani territory, including in Lahore, Sialkot, and Gujranwala.

Diplomatic actions accompanied military operations, with India suspending the Indus Water Treaty, cancelling Pakistani visas, and shutting down the Attari border.
On Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that both nations had agreed to a ceasefire. India later confirmed this through Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while maintaining that the ceasefire followed a conversation between the two countries' DGMOs.

India has warned that any future terror attack emanating from Pakistani soil will be treated as an act of war.

PM Modi’s address is expected to outline India’s stance on national security, regional peace, and its firm response to terror.
