Mumbai, May 11: Amid heightened national sentiment following Operation Sindoor, police in Maharashtra have booked two individuals for controversial social media posts that allegedly undermined national unity and supported anti-India narratives.

In Mumbai, Malwani Police booked a 40-year-old woman for allegedly criticising Operation Sindoor in a social media message. The post, shared two days ago, caught attention after a Bajrang Dal member lodged a formal complaint on Saturday. The woman, who runs a beauty parlour, has been served a notice and issued a formal warning. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is in progress.

In a separate incident in Pune, a 19-year-old college student from Kondhwa was arrested on Friday for ending an Instagram post with the phrase “Pakistan Zindabad.” The arrest followed a complaint by police constable Subhash Jarande and came during routine social media monitoring by law enforcement amid military escalation between India and Pakistan.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde, the student’s post was flagged for promoting enmity and potentially disturbing public peace. She has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those for promoting hatred, hurting religious sentiments, and threatening national integrity.

The incident sparked strong protests from members of the Sakal Hindu Samaj, who demanded stringent action. To avoid unrest during court proceedings, police used a decoy strategy, deploying a female officer disguised as the accused to safely escort her to court. She has been remanded to five-day police custody as investigators probe possible links to anti-national networks.

Authorities have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance toward content that endangers public order or supports hostile narratives during this sensitive period.
