PM Modi holds high-level security review amid post-ceasefire drone activity

New Delhi, May 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting Sunday morning with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force amid continued drone sightings in Jammu and Kashmir, despite the ceasefire declared between India and Pakistan on Saturday evening.

While officials described the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) as stable, the meeting focused on reviewing Saturday night’s developments and discussed steps to strengthen border defences further in light of ongoing aerial threats.

Adding to the day’s defence-related developments, Rajnath Singh is expected to virtually inaugurate the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile manufacturing facility in Lucknow, part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. The plant will produce between 80 to 100 missiles annually, enhancing India’s missile self-reliance.

The Ministry of Defence is also scheduled to hold a press briefing soon to address the current security scenario and post-ceasefire developments.

Saturday’s ceasefire decision followed another high-level meeting chaired by PM Modi, which included NSA Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and the three service chiefs.

After the ceasefire was announced, Jaishankar issued a statement affirming India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, saying:

“India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so.”

However, tensions remain high. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, late Saturday, urged Pakistan to stop repeated violations along India’s northern and western borders, even as he reiterated that the armed forces remain on alert and are responding appropriately to any breach of the ceasefire.

Despite the agreement, explosions and sirens were reported late Saturday in Srinagar, Anantnag, Barmer (Rajasthan), and Kutch (Gujarat), prompting continued public anxiety and military vigilance.
