Mangaluru, May 10: Chief minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the newly constructed Deputy Commissioner's office at Padil and the state-of-the-art indoor stadium at Urwa during his visit to Mangaluru on May 16, announced district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
The new DC office has been constructed at a total cost of Rs 75 crore. While the original project estimate was Rs 55 crore, an additional Rs 20 crore was sourced from the Smart City Mission funds to upgrade infrastructure and ensure modern amenities. The facility is expected to significantly improve public service delivery and provide a more centralized administrative setup for the district.

"The new DC office reflects our commitment to efficient governance and citizen-centric service. It will house 23 departments under one roof, streamlining administration and improving access for the public," said Dinesh Gundu Rao.
The modern indoor stadium at Urwa, built at a cost of Rs 35 crore, is equipped with contemporary facilities to host various sports and indoor events. It is aimed at promoting sports culture and providing quality training infrastructure for local talent.
Both projects were initiated during Siddaramaiah’s previous term as chief minister. With the completion of works, he will now formally inaugurate them.
The process of shifting government departments to the new DC office will begin on the day of the inauguration, with a phased relocation expected to be completed within two to three weeks.
District officials and elected representatives are expected to be present at the inauguration ceremonies.
Commenting on the fake news issue, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “The police have taken strict action against provocative messages and fake news on social media. Several cases have already been filed in this regard.”
When asked about the allegation that the Congress government did not visit Suhas Shetty's residence, Gundu Rao responded, “Murders happen for various reasons, and the government will act accordingly. There is no obligation for us to visit every victim's residence.”
In response to BJP's suspicion regarding the investigation into Suhas Shetty’s case, Gundu Rao said, “We cannot respond to baseless assumptions. If they have any credible information, they should share it with the police, who will investigate it appropriately.”
When asked whether a security review had been conducted in light of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Gundu Rao said, “Chief minister Siddaramaiah will hold a meeting with police officials to discuss the state's security and the preventive measures to be taken. He may have also received directions from the central government.”
