Mangaluru, May 9: The department of Rheumatology at KMC Hospital, Attavar observed World Lupus Day with a special event held at the hospital auditorium on Wednesday, May 7.
The event was presided over by Dr Chakrapani M, medical superintendent, who emphasised the importance of public awareness in the early detection and effective treatment of Lupus. He lauded the commendable work being done by the department of Rheumatology at the hospital.
On this occasion, KMC Hospital, Attavar, in collaboration with the department of Rheumatology, officially launched the Lupus Support Group a first-of-its-kind initiative in Mangaluru. The support group, established through a WhatsApp platform, aims to empower individuals affected by lupus by providing continuous support, health guidance, and community integration. It brings together patients, healthcare professionals, social workers, and expert doctors to share comprehensive information on managing lupus, improving quality of life, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and addressing stigma and discrimination.










Prominent resource persons at the event included dermatologist Dr Pooja Kotian and rheumatologists Dr Pratyusha Manikuppam and Dr Shivaraj Padiyar, who delivered informative sessions on Lupus care and treatment protocols. The event also featured inspiring testimonies from Lupus patients who shared their personal journeys of managing the condition, motivating others with their resilience and experiences.
A key highlight of the programme was an interactive session between Lupus patients referred to as lupus warriors and the panel of specialist doctors. Lupus kits were also distributed to all participants by the hospital as a gesture of support and encouragement.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr Deepak Madi, deputy medical superintendent of KMC Hospital, Attavar, along with Dr Shivaraj Padiyar and Dr Pratyusha Manikuppam from the department of Rheumatology. The programme was compered by Udaya J from the Public Relations department.
