Bengaluru, May 8: Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Deve Gowda has extended heartfelt appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, commending his leadership in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and the successful execution of Operation Sindoor.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Gowda, who currently serves as a Rajya Sabha member, wrote:
"Your leadership has been exemplary, and history will undoubtedly record it in glowing terms."
He praised the government's "mature and restrained" military response to the terror strike and lauded Modi for swiftly returning from his diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia and cancelling his planned trip to Europe to address the national crisis.
Gowda’s message stood out for its rare bipartisan tone, especially in the current climate of electoral polarization.
“I know it is lonely at the top… You have demonstrated that you have it all in good measure,” he noted, pointing to what he called Modi's “spiritual grounding and calm judgement.”
The 93-year-old statesman framed the national response in moral terms, calling it a “war of Dharma against the Adharma of terrorism,” while expressing confidence in the resilience and unity of the Indian people.
This letter follows an all-party briefing by the central government on Operation Sindoor, where the armed forces were said to have targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, following the brutal April 22 attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
