New Delhi, May 6: Indian communities across the globe have come together in a wave of peaceful protests and memorials to condemn the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists and left many others severely injured on April 22.
The brutal ambush unfolded in the scenic Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where four heavily armed terrorists—two of whom were reportedly Pakistani nationals—emerged from dense forest cover and indiscriminately fired on unsuspecting tourists. The incident has been described as one of the most devastating terror attacks in the region in recent memory.
In response, members of the Indian diaspora in several countries have organized vigils, rallies, and tributes to honor the victims and call for international action against terrorism.
In the United States, the Hindu Community of Georgia led a protest rally in Atlanta. US Congressman Rich McCormick joined the demonstrators in denouncing the attack and calling for justice and global unity against terror.
Over in Madrid, Spain, Indian expatriates gathered at Plaza de Callao, standing shoulder to shoulder in solidarity. The peaceful protest echoed the sentiment of global unity, as participants demanded decisive international measures against terrorism.
In Canada, the Indian Consulate in Toronto became a focal point for collective mourning. Community members assembled to pay their respects and express support for the victims. “Innocent lives lost. Families shattered,” the Consulate posted on X, noting the diaspora's heartfelt show of solidarity.
Chicago saw a significant gathering at the National India Hub in Schaumburg, Illinois, where over 200 people—spanning India’s diverse regions, faiths, and languages—united in protest. Indian Consul General Somnath Ghosh addressed the crowd, underlining the community’s shared commitment to peace and justice.
In Sweden, the Indian Embassy organized a floral tribute and moment of silence for the victims. “The Indian diaspora resolved to stand united against terrorism,” the Embassy shared in a message on X.
Meanwhile, in New York, a solemn prayer service was held at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Jackson Heights, bringing together members of the community for a moment of collective reflection and remembrance.
