Jamshedpur, May 4: In a horrifying freak accident, a man was burnt alive inside his car after a cooking gas cylinder kept on the co-driver’s seat exploded, engulfing the vehicle in flames in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident took place around 5:30 am on Marine Drive in the Kadma police station area of Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur. The victim has been identified as Sunil Agarwal, a resident of Brijiya Heritage, who was sitting on the driver’s seat at the time of the explosion.

Eyewitnesses said the blast was so intense that the car instantly turned into a fireball. Local residents rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue the driver, but the fire’s ferocity made it impossible. The flames were brought under control only after firefighters arrived.
Kadma police station officials, along with the DSP, reached the scene and found the vehicle almost completely destroyed. A badly charred body was recovered from the driver’s seat, and a damaged LPG cylinder was found in the front passenger area.
Due to the extent of burns, the body could not be immediately identified. Police later traced the car’s registration number to confirm the victim’s identity. A forensic team has been roped in to examine the vehicle and ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.
Police have suggested that the incident appears to be accidental, with no signs of foul play in the preliminary investigation.
