Mumbai, May 1: On the 66th Foundation Day of Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the state for being a “strong pillar of progress” and praised its unwavering contribution to India's development and cultural legacy.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Maharashtra, stating, “When one thinks of Maharashtra, its glorious history and the courage of its people come to mind. The state remains a strong pillar of progress while staying rooted in its traditions. My best wishes for Maharashtra’s continued progress.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah echoed similar sentiments, hailing the state’s historic role in upholding cultural values, agricultural advancements, and economic development. “Maharashtra has been instrumental in shaping the nation's prosperity, from preserving its cultural ethos to fuelling the economy. I wish the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj unending success,” he said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis marked the occasion by unfurling the national flag at his official residence ‘Varsha’. “Maharashtra is seen as a progressive, forward-looking state. Our government is committed to transforming it into a trillion-dollar economy,” said Fadnavis.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also shared warm wishes, asserting that the state’s journey of holistic growth across sectors would continue with renewed zeal.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in a video message, noted Mumbai’s emergence as India’s economic ‘growth engine’. “From agriculture and industry to education and health, Maharashtra has set benchmarks. Let us all pledge to preserve its legacy as a progressive, civilised, and leading state,” he said.

As Maharashtra celebrated its 66th Sthapana Diwas—commemorating the state’s formation on May 1, 1960—leaders across party lines came together in saluting the spirit of this land known for its valor, vision, and vibrant progress.
