Bengaluru, May 27: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday declared that the State Government will take stern action against the culprits involved in the attack on the Channagiri police station.

Speaking to media persons at the KPCC office, he said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already ordered a CIB investigation into the alleged death of a person accused of being a rowdy in the police station, which is under progress.

However, the persons who pelted stones and attacked the police station will be dealt with strictly. There is no question of lenience to any person or communities and the guilty will be punished, he said.

Shivakumar said the Congress government functions in accordance with the law and there is no question of shielding anybody or any community.

Asked about the progress in the Hassan sex scandal against JDS Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who has allegedly raped and sexually abused several women and recorded the acts in phone and copied them in pen drives, Shivakumar said a month has elapsed since the grandson of JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda has vanished abroad.

“I don’t want to make any comments on the investigation,” he said pointing out that it is the Central government’s responsibility to revoke the Hassan MP’s diplomatic passport and bring him back so that the SIT can proceed with the investigation.

The State Government or State police and SIT cannot do anything when the JDS MP is abroad, he said and explained the Chief Minister has already writing to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister Dr G Parameshwar is handling the issue.

Asked if he was going to Delhi on the selection of candidates for the Council polls from the State Assembly, he said: “As State party president, it is my duty and responsibility. I am going to discuss with the party high command.”

Hinting at the possibility of a revamp of KPCC and party organisations, he said all those party leaders, who had served in the organisation in different posts for two terms or for 10 years must make way for others. “It is time to provide an opportunity to newcomers,” he said indicating that the party will give preference to youth.

To a query on unpaid bills for the Prime Minister’s stay at a Mysuru hotel, Shivakumar said he did not have any information on it.

On JD(S) state chief H.D. Kumaraswamy’s statement that some Congress leaders are pimps, he said: “I don’t know what Kumaraswamy has said. Let me understand what he has said and then reply."
