Mangaluru: Auto-rickshaw falls into overflowing stormwater drain, driver dies

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 25: An auto-rickshaw fell into a stormwater drain, and the driver died at Abbakka Nagara near Kottara in the city.

The deceased has been identified as Deepak (40).

The stormwater drain was overflowing due to the heavy rains that lashed the city late Friday night. Since no retaining wall was built for the stormwater drain, the water overflowed onto the road. Water was flowing on both the stormwater drain and the road at the same level. The auto-rickshaw driver was driving his vehicle that night and took the vehicle to one side, causing it to fall into the drain.

Negligence by the Mangaluru City Corporation in not building the retaining wall for the stormwater drain is the cause of the mishap in which the auto-rickshaw driver lost his life.

Many a times i agree with Rudolf and kujuma for their comments, for calling this smart city as manga land and also our country as third world country. Why because, all of us wait till the tragedy happens and wait for some one dies. Why daily travellers, shop keepers, apartment owners, drivers of busses/cars/autos drivers etc have not given written Complaints to MCC individually or collectively? Or should have informed your local corporators/MLAs. After incident happens why such cries and hues. Poor fellow lost his life. Now useless to blame.

The problem in third world places is nobody is held accountable for such tragedies where innocent especially the poor and downtrodden citizens lose their life and limb for no fault of theirs; just imagine if the same tragedy had occurred in a developed country, the victim's next of kin would be easily/straight away be eligible to get compensation in millions! FYI, the kin of children killed in a mass firing incident somewhere in the US have filed a class action suit against meta and the company which produced the computer game with which the juvenile accused got influenced (recent news available in public domain)! Please note this is a very personal opinion; kindly do not believe in anybody's personal opinion! Please do your own research and analysis 😉🙏🙏

Everyone knows who is responsible for this death. But no one will question them. Deaths in the form of negligence in this country is the biggest threat to public. But somehow the responsible have fooled u to believe that a community is the biggest threat to u. Rip to driver.

According to me First DC, 2nd MCC Commissioner, 3rd Mayor, 4th that area corporators are all responsible and accountable. DC post is not " Ustava Moorthy", he has to check each and every mistake what lower staffs are doing. All are busy with photo shot only. Honesty I am asking who's responsible for this negligence work?????

This incident is very shocking as the place is just facing the premonsoon showers! BTW; if I am not mistaken, this particular area is always in the news during the monsoons; many people are trapped here by spending big money for building huge mansions! IMO; the local people's representative should be taken to task for this gross and callous negligence and made to bear the compensation to the next of kin of the innocent auto driver!!

Hold the corporator accountable. If one corporator is made an example of every other corporator will fall in line. If they cannot take care of their wards what is their use?
