Karkala: Three women injured in blast at explosives manufacturing unit

Karkala, May 8: A blast occurred at a manufacturing unit of explosives in Kaje, Near Himmunje, Kasba village on Wednesday May 8. Three women sustained injuries due to the mishap.

Sushma, one of the workers, suffered serious burn injuries. She received first aid at Karkala taluk government hospital and has been transferred to Udupi district government hospital for further treatment.

The manufacturing unit has reportedly been operational for several years, and the blast came as an unexpected event. The unit had recently reopened in a new building. The explosion resulted in a loud thud, and the unit's roof caught fire and burned.

Officials including the Karkala town police inspector, police circle inspector, DySP, and others visited the site, gathered details, and are conducting investigations.
