Mangaluru: Migrant worker 'Black Spots' impacting Smart City

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, May 8: The migrant workers lack basic facilities in the district as they prefer occupying bus stands and streets in prime locations of Mangaluru, turning them into black spots for the beauty of the Smart City.

The concerned authorities have remained mute spectators over the years, as no measures have been taken regarding migrant workers occupying bus stands and streets by installing tents all over the place.

One can observe people from North Karnataka and other parts of India with their families, including children and toddlers. These children are deprived of education, and the concerned authorities have turned a blind eye to it.

NHAI had constructed a bus stand at KPT which has remained unused by passengers for years. Migrant workers have made the best use of NHAI bus stands as their residence, setting up tents and hanging clothes in the bus stands.

The migrant workers openly cook, change clothes, and bathe at the entrance of the KPT junction. Mangaluru is a place where many tourists arrive to witness its beauty, but observing migrant workers ruining the city's beauty, turning it into a black spot, leaves a bad impression on Mangaluru.

Apart from KPT, Pumpwell flyover, and Kuntikan flyover have also been occupied by migrant workers. KPT road connects to the airport, where VVIPs take the KPT route towards the circuit house or other locations. When VVIPs reach KPT, they are welcomed by migrant workers occupying the streets and bus stands with tents, treating it as their own residence.

The officials and elected representatives need to act swiftly and ensure that children are not deprived of education, and alternative measures are made for the migrant workers.

These poor people come in hunt of work not only from north karnataka, but many from rajasthan and north india. These are gypsy people, who keep moving from one place to another for living. these people are very notorious and not trust worthy due to which these days robbery are taking place in the city. Even if you try to hire them for some work, them come with full family and try to get inside your house forcibly.

This has to be stopped before Hampankatta becomes a Dharavi. Please drive them away, Mangalore is not responsible to house each and every person comes from UP, Bihar, Bengal or NE. Those who are hiring them, please take care of their accommodation too, don't spoil our city. Secondly, our youngsters who are roaming the streets, please start working. Our city is Dubai to those who are coming from outside. If they can earn a living here, why can't we do our own work ?

I agree their difficulties. But still they are producing children for what? That's why India is not improving. First we have to control our population. Then everything will be alright. One should not produce children if he cannot give education and food. If we want a child first you should think wheather I am capable to bring up this child with all needs

In such a grave situation we cannot afford to leave these people in the hands of unreliable politicians and officials. I think private players like builders and landlords should come forward by constructing low cost chawl type housing with basic facilities by charging nominal rent.

"Narendra Modi has waived off the loans of his billionaire friends amounting to Rs 1,60,00,00,00,00,000 i.e. 16 lakh crore rupees." With same amount of funds Lacs of poor (below the poverty line) could have been uplifted. This is Modi vision. Women empowerment and protection. Creation of 20 Crore new employment chances ...so on..... Vote for looters

Government must make some arrangements with some sort of shelter (away from the City) to and basic amenities such sanitation, water supply and medical centres. In return let them collect nominal charges as for expenses involved. Collection of amounts must be mandatory, and the labourers are bound to pay nominal charges. Whatsoever, these migrant workers should be discouraged from encroaching govt. land and occupying space underneath the flyover as so on.

Maintain cleanliness and educate people on keeping the city tidy. I've seen mannerless people throwing trash from cars and dumping on roadside. If this stops Mangalore will be clean and smart. Cleanliness should be our top priority.

Most important is the children here. They must be provided with basic facilities and education. Most of the infants and toddlers are malnutrition-ed. Authorities must do something for their future.

Talking of viksit bharat, GDP, very soon becoming 3rd largest economy and being proud of the country , nationalism etc etc. First try to eradicate poverty, give housing to needy , food for the hungry.- then start talking about pride of the country.

Without migrant workers all construction activity in the city will stop. They are the real people who should be credited for development, so they should be provided basic amenities like place to stay, water, electricity, drainage and toilet and of course food.

The migrant workers are here not for a PICNIC but to earn a living for themselves. They are also humans like us. Our elected representatives should ensure that whoever brings them here for work should provide for a decent shelter for them. When Eshwaguru did road show last month, Did he see these Scenes? so that a roof for them can be included in the 2047 roadmap

Smart City slogan only benefits the realty and related cartels while at the ground level there is hardly any development, except more and more educational institutions setting up base into every nook and corner of the city 😁
