Puttur, Apr 28: Uppinangady police have registered a case against a bridegroom as per a complaint filed with the officials of election code of conduct implementation team. The wedding invitation mentioned “Making Modi as PM this time too is the present you will be giving to the couple.”

The invitation card was printed before the election code of conduct was implemented.

The wedding of Shivaprasad alias Ravi, a resident of Alanthaya village of Kadaba to Pramila K, a resident of Haleneranki village of Kadaba was held on April 18 at Golithottu Siddivinayaka Kalamandira. The invitation was printed on March 1 in which a tagline asks the invitees to vote for BJP indirectly was printed.

The EC officials visited the bridegroom's house on April 14 and inquired on the matter. The bridegroom said that 800 invitation cards were printed on March 1 itself and except for 10 cards all the others had been distributed. As he had printed the cards before the implementation of the election code of conduct it does not amount to violation, the bridegroom contended.

He gave a written statement saying that he has got the slogan printed out of love for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and concern for the country and not with any other intention.

The EC officials approached Uppinangady police station on April 26 after the polling was over and filed a complaint based on which the police have registered a case.

The press owner who had printed the invitation card was also called for verification on the matter on Saturday, April 27.
