Belthangady, April 17: Congress candidate for Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency Padmaraj R Poojary took a dig at the BJP over the lack of development agenda in terms of job creation and for orphaning many families.

Addressing a rally here in a roadshow held from Naravi till Aladangala, he said,“BJP is boasting of itself as a patriotic party and that we are traitors. Patriotic people should have strengthened the conditions of the houses. But they have orphaned many many families. They should have been the light of the youths by creating jobs. What have the BJP people done here? There is no development from them. They should have at least upgraded the projects that they have brought to the district by Congress people. They have only destroyed homes and orphaned people which is the only achievement of the BJP.”

Padmaraj R Poojary said that he never said that he will come to politics and seek an election ticket. “We have reached this high position because of the blessings of the deities. The feast of Republic Day should be celebrated like other feasts. Let us not spread any enmity here.”

Former minister Ramanath Rai said there should be discussions over development today. “Where are the banks that were started in the coastal region? It is necessary to know who spoiled communal harmony. Congress gave life to self-reliance. Elect Congress if you want non-violence,” he appealed to the voters.

“Narayana Guru did not ask only the Billava community to be independent by getting educated and to be strong by getting united. He impared those teachings to all the communities of the backward classes,” said KPCC spokesperson Nikethraj Maurya.

“Narayana Guru worked for the prosperity of the community. Basavanna and Ambedkar too had walked on the same path. Their intention was the welfare of backward classes. Padmaraj R Poojary, the pupil of Janardhana Poojary is contesting elections now as the voice of backward classes and for the welfare of small communities. Padmaraj should win to carry forward all the backward communities. He does not speak about anything else other than education and health. Therefore work with confidence that we will win this time,” he said.

“People have become self-reliant because of guarantee schemes. But opposition parties are saying that girls are getting misled due to Shakti scheme. How can the girls coming to Hasanambe, Sringeri and Sharade get spoilt? BJP which is indulging in propaganda is providing guarantee schemes in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh copying the guarantees of Congress,” he said.

KPCC general secretary Rakshit Shivaram said there is a wave of guarantees and that of Padmaraj in Belthangady taluk. “You should elect Padmaraj, the pupil of Janardhana Poojary in the district,” he said.

Former minister Gangadhar Gowda said the Congress government has the pride of providing for several programmes. “Therefore, the Congress party should come back to power and Padmaraj Poojary should win,” he said.

DCC president Harish Kumar, Ranjan Gowda, Nagesh Gowda, minority unit district president Shahul Hameed, Prathibhavantha Kulai, Shalet Pinto, Shakuntala Gatti, Dharnendra Kumar, Vandana Bhandary, Lakshmish Gabbaladka and others were present.

Town block Congress president Sathish Kashipatna welcomed. Shekar Kukketti proposed the vote of thanks.

They visited Venur Mahalingeshwara Temple, Naravi Suryanarayana Temple, Aladangady Sathyadevathe Temple, Naravi Digambar Jain Temple, Dharmanatha Swamy Basadi and Naravi St Anthony Church.

Ravi Kotian, Naravi Digambara Jain temple president Niranjan Ajre, president Prem Kumar, Mahaveer Jain, Shishupal Jain, Vinay Kumar, Jinendra Jain, Shantiraj Jain, Prasad Jain, Sooraj Jain, Naravi St Anthony church vice-president of pastoral council Sanjay Miranda, secretary Eugene Rodrigues, Diana and others were present.
