Udupi: Santhekatte National Highway underpass set to open on Apr 17

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Apr 16: A section of the National Highway 66 Udupi Santhekatte underpass project has been completed and will be open for vehicular traffic starting April 17, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has announced.

The previous unscientific layout of the national highway often led to traffic congestion at Santhekatte. Recognizing this issue, MP Shobha Karandlaje prioritized the construction of the underpass, which has now been completed, ensuring smoother traffic flow. It may be recalled that Daijiworld had extensively reported on the issue from the past several months.

The announcement ensures that the traffic issue along the Santhekatte National Highway, particularly on Under Pass Road, will be resolved. Additionally, work on the remaining section of the underpass will commence soon.

There will be a massive landslide in June 2024 rains if the mud wall in the picture, which is currently NH66, is not removed sooner or a retaining wall similar to the one in the picture is constructed. We hope they have planned their work accurately.

One side of the excavation is not at all protected. One rain is sufficient for the soil to collapse on the road. Our uneducated ministers are opening the road just for election purpose endangering the life of common people. However, our Udupi people deserve such kind of shabby works as punishment for electing people with communal agenda and without any education.

Last time there was a serious issue of the design of the retainer wall, hope it has been comprehensively resolved before opening it to the traffic as any cloud burst in the rainy season could again cause a landslide on this underpaas route?

This underpass should be named after Shobakka in recognition of her inefficiency and total apathy towards the social issues of the region.

One side is still exposed. No retaining wall. How can this be called completed. If heavy rains occur, that portion can collapse. At least shortcreting should have been done. This does not look as of it has been done in scientific manner.
