Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 6: The mercury is rising in coastal districts of Karnataka. Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kannada district recorded 39.9°C on April 4 and 5, while Ajekar in Udupi recorded 39.2°C.

Temperatures are running one or two degrees above normal for this time of year, with averages ranging from 35 to 36°C throughout the coastal region. Forecasts suggest temperatures will continue to rise in the coming days.

Rain is expected after April 10, according to weather reports. The district disaster management authority has issued instructions to prevent heat stroke. It's advised that the public drink water frequently, even when not feeling tired. Fruits with high water content, like watermelon, oranges, mosambi, grapes, and pineapple, should be consumed regularly.

Wearing a cap or carrying an umbrella when outdoors in the sun is recommended. Loose, cotton clothing is suitable for summer, and walking barefoot should be avoided. Sandals or shoes should be worn. Parents should ensure children stay hydrated by drinking two to three litres of water daily according to their age. If fever, cold, body pain, or boils are observed, seek medical attention promptly.
