After 17-hr long effort, toddler Satwik Mujagonda rescued from borewell

Vijayapura, Apr 4 (IANS): Satwik Mujagonda, the two-year-old boy who had fallen into an open borewell in Lachchana village in Karnataka's Vijaypua district, was rescued on Thursday after a 17-hour-long operation.

Sathwik had fallen into the borewell at his parent's agricultural field on Wednesday while he was playing.

The boy was stuck 20 feet inside the open borewell. Authorities said that a parallel pit was drilled with the help of two JCBs. Later, a horizontal hole was made to reach out to the boy.

After the rescue, the child was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance with his parents.

Earlier in the day, the authorities, family and people heaved a sigh of relief on hearing the toddler's cries on the camera.

The camera had also recorded the movements of the toddler's legs.

The rescue operation was delayed as a boulder surfaced while digging a parallel pit, said the authorities.

So many such incidents reported in the past where toddlers went down borewell and lost life. Here this toddler is lucky to survive. Its always better to be proactive and prevent incidents from happening rather than being reactive and then crying. As per the news its their own borewell so i believe his parents were careless to leave the borewell open.

Indeed such a great relief. Its horrifying to see suffering. Remember Prince something like 15 years back, guess its broadcasted live in india, entire nation, glued and praying for his safety. These days such empathy has become rare commodity.

Very good news. Now atleast close all open unused bore wells immediately. Government need to take steps before another event.

If farmers want to remove the expensive pipes out of the defunct borewell, they should ensure the surroundings are properly fenced so that small children may not reach the spot.
