Mangaluru, Apr 1: A rare black panther that fell into the well of Shakunthala Acharya, a resident of Edapadavu near Kaikamba, was rescued by the forest department.

Shakunthala discovered the black panther while drawing water from the well. Forest department officials and locals initiated rescue operations early Sunday morning. A net was placed around the well and a ladder was lowered to assist in bringing the panther up. Additionally, a cage was positioned nearby to secure the panther upon its ascent from the well.

The area near Borugudde in Edapadavu had witnessed a recent surge in leopard activity, resulting in the predation of numerous domestic dogs and cattle. Consequently, a large crowd gathered to witness the rescue of the panther.

The rescue operation involved zonal forest officer Rajesh Baligar, deputy zonal forest officer Jagaraj, forest guards Dinesh and Kyathalinga, driver Sooraj, as well as local residents Harish, Ganesh, and the Bajpe police.

Looks like wild animals are straying into human areas because they don't have enough food, If forest officials provide food to animals in forests then they will not stray to human areas In South Africa they provide food like this and prevent animals from escaping to human areas I wish our officials also do the same thing here FOr eg Tigers etc should be provided meat in wild areas regularly then they will not stray also provide water in the forest by making ponds

As the animal is rare, and rather than letting it free, it should be given an open caged area with ample space, so should be housed at pilikula, when the visitor and kids can have a glimpse of this rare specie
