Kundapur: IMJISC organizes ‘Yakshagana Hejje- Kirunota’

Kundapura, Mar 8: The fine arts association and the readers club of IMJ Institute of Science and Commerce jointly organised a programme ‘Yakshagana Hejje –Kirunota.’ This programme was a step towards inculcating an appreciation of this folk-art form among the youth. Prof Sookshma Adiga, assistant professor of CS department at Moodlakatte Institute of Technology inaugurated the programme.  

Speaking on the occasion she said, “Yakshagana is not just an art for entertainment but it's an art of worship. Its essence lies in storytelling. It incorporates elaborate costumes and ornaments suitable for the characters. This art was initially formulated as a means of conveying the complex form of written puranas to common people. Due to the complex mythological themes in traditional poetry, yakshagana emerged as a means of popularizing these concepts among the masses.  It is essential to educate students about the significance of Yakshagana.

The principal of the institution Dr Pratibha M Patel spoke on the importance of this traditional form of art to the students.  Sannidhi P Y of first BCA and Yakshagana artist demonstrated some steps and gave the information on rules of the Yakshagana. Bhanumati offered the prayer. Vaibhavi and Sanidhi P Y, Yakshagana artists read the articles. Rashitha Shetty of first BCA compered the programme.
