Mangaluru: Alert student saves classmate from being run over by school bus

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Feb 24: A potentially tragic incident was narrowly averted in Kulai Sri Vishnumurthy Extension on February 21, thanks to the swift actions of a vigilant classmate. The heart-stopping moment unfolded as a student, having disembarked from a school bus, found himself perilously close to the vehicle's path, narrowly escaping a potentially catastrophic accident.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing ordeal, detailing how the driver of the school bus, seemingly unaware of the student's presence, began to manoeuvre the vehicle forward shortly after the students had alighted. It was at this critical juncture that one astute classmate, recognizing the imminent danger, sprang into action, shouting a warning that jolted the driver into slamming on the brakes just in the nick of time.

Despite the swift intervention, the student attempting to cross the bus sustained minor injuries, prompting immediate administration of first aid on the scene.

As a rule of thumb one should never cross the road from front of the vehicle, whether it is a Auto, Car, Truck or Bus, it applies to all persons using public transport. But the children are mostly ignorant. These safety instructions should be imparted to students at the school itself as a part of safety rules, in the campus, at home and while using the school transport. The school needs to educate student about safety.

School busses should pickup and drop children on the same side of their house so that they do not have to cross the road. Many cities in India follow this rule and it should be implemented in the costal districts too.

Driver should have made sure that all the students are in safe place before moving forward the bus. In our country drivers are not taught something called safety.
