Mangaluru: Konkani Lekhak Sangh’s literary award to be conferred on Dr Gerald Pinto on Feb 17

Mangaluru, Feb 2: Konkani Lekhak Sangh Karnataka, a voluntary association was exclusively formed with the sole intention of promoting Konkani language and literature in the year 2018. From the year 2022, Konkani Lekhak Sangh decided to select and honour a Konkani writer who has immensely contributed to Konkani literature.

For the year 2024, Konkani Lekhak Sangh award committee has selected a well known Konkani writer Dr Gerald Pinto, also known as Gerry Niddodi.

Adressing media on Friday February 2, convener of Konkani Lekhak Sangh Richard Moras, committee members Dolphy F Lobo and Henry Mascarenhas, and advisory committee member J F D’Souza said that rhe award will be conferred at a function on February 17 at 6.30 pm, at Sandesha premises, Sandesha Foundation, Bajjodi, Mangaluru.

The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 25000, a citation and a memento.

Dr Gerald Pinto has served as the president of Catholic Sabha, Central Committee, and as an editor of ‘Amcho Sandesh’ . He is the recipient of Danthy Memorial Award, Konkani Kutam Bahrain Award, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award, Daiji Dubai Literary Award, Divo Sahitya Award and Amcho Sandesh Silver Jubilee Award. He has also served as the director of ‘Manasa’ Pamboor. He has served as principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur, Udupi. Presently, he is the director of MCC Bank Ltd, Mangaluru.

He has written 6 novels, 75 short stories and more than 900 articles on different subjects.
