Interim Budget allocates Rs 55 crore for crucial railway development in Mangaluru

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Feb 2: In the interim budget, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has allocated Rs 55 crore for significant railway-related projects in Mangaluru. The funds are designated for essential infrastructure enhancements and track development.

The major allocation includes Rs 50 crore for the double-track project between Jokatte railway station (Southern Railway) and Thokur railway station (Konkan Railway). This 1.98 km stretch is of paramount importance as it connects two distinct railway zones, facilitating improved connectivity.

Additionally, Rs 4.74 crore has been specified for the completion of additional platforms at Mangaluru Central Railway Station. Despite the recent inauguration of the fourth and fifth additional platforms, the construction of shelters and a pedestrian overbridge is still pending.

The budget also designates Rs 1 crore for the patch doubling work on the Mangaluru Junction-Panambur stretch of railway track. Furthermore, Rs 1.2 crore is allotted for the remaining work on the doubling of Netravati Cabin Mangaluru Central section.

What is the use of double tracking if it doesn't serve the public? As of now both Thokur and Jokatte stations do not serve passengers. One of the stations must be upgraded making serviceable to air passengers with proper road connectivity to the airport, also considering their proximity to Baikampadi and Yeyyadi industrial areas on either side.

It ought to have been 550 crores; 55 crores is insignificant. The Phalgar division should be relocated to Mangalore and established as a separate division.

This is only for Lok Sabha election purposes. BJP has to show it has done something for its blind coastal district followers. After the election, in the full budget, it will disappear.
