Mangaluru: Public miffed by open drainage woes at Kankanady junction

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Feb 1: Despite being dubbed a smart city, residents of Mangaluru are grappling with severe drainage issues. The open drain at Kankanady, a pivotal junction in the city, is currently carrying waste water that poses a potential risk of spreading contagious diseases.

The drainage predicament is particularly acute behind a private medical college, rendering the area almost uninhabitable due to the overpowering stench. Students residing in nearby hostels and flat residents find it challenging to endure the unpleasant conditions. Local residents assert that their pleas to the city corporation and elected representatives have fallen on deaf ears.

Waste water from local hotels, apartments, and complexes converges into the open drains, causing water to infiltrate the buildings' rooms. The prevalence of mosquitoes near the open drains exacerbates the situation.

The current state of the drainage system in this purported smart city is disheartening. Residents hope that elected representatives will promptly address their concerns and take necessary actions to rectify the situation.
