Tipu Sultan’s statue garlanded with slippers; Raichur tense

Raichur, Jan 31 (IANS): Karnataka’s Sirwar town in Raichur District is tense following the violation of the statue of the erstwhile ruler of Mysuru, Tipu Sultan on Wednesday.

Some miscreants garlanded the statue of Tipu Sultan with slippers in the wee hours of Wednesday and the people came to know about it in the morning, leading to widespread anger.

A large number of people have come out in the open condemning the incident and are staging a protest at the Tipu Circle.

They have also blocked the road and torched tyres at the protest site, demanding immediate arrest of the people behind the vandalism.

Police have rushed to the spot and are checking CCTV footage to get clues about the miscreants.

More details are yet to emerge regarding the incident.

    When these people garland Tippus statue with chappals or not ,old history will not change.He remains as Tippu.Let them do when it satisfy them.Tomorrow they will find someone else and Tippu is fogotten.

    This peoples will never improve...they got problems with everything...one thing is clear how much they bark...they their self hurt their throat..Tippu the tiger of Mysore was know to all and will keep on knowing if this kind of importance will be given in future. No need to publish his name in books...every year Road block and 144 Section is enough to have knowledge about him and in this century its easily to access to find who is tipu sultan and what is his story...so chill and enjoy!!

    actually tipu should not be given any importance..he is the worst tyrant seen in the history of Karnataka...he has killed more than 60000 christians of DK. even got pregnant women pushed from the top of Gadayikallu as they refused to convert to the stone age religion. Catholics should never agree on this point with Congress or anyone else. Tipu was the worst enemy of Roman Catholics

    Your saying the truth but i don't agree with no 60000. and you should know why he did that as well. Mangalorean Catholics of at that time helped British to conquest of Mangalore. and it told by the Christian historians because of this there was lot of damage and lost many life of Tuluva's to British. Many Hindus justify that Tippu killed Catholics.. they don't know because of them at that time many Hindus lost there life. so Tippu had to fight back and recaptured Mangalore from British. and punished Catholics for being Gaddar for the state. and Portuguese officer suggested the death penalty for those Catholics who had helped the British, as it was the standard punishment for betraying a sovereign. Hyder chose a diplomatic stance and imprisoned Christians found guilty of treachery instead of executing them.

    Indian..if your view points are correct then christians did the right thing that time. Britishers were far more better than present day politicians. They say Britishers looted India..but what about olden day kings and current politicians looted India.....but still I say Tippu was a coward and butcher. He attacked from back.     No tuluvas killed by British, which history you were reading, Tippu destroyed every church in coastal region. only three churches were spared because local bunts opposed and resisted against Tippu soldiers, It was Tuluvas especially Bunts & Jains gave shelter , land to catholics who migrated to Mangalore along with GSB community, Tippu was a tyrant and coward

    100% agree with ram rahim robert. Tippu was a butcher. Christians and Hindus will never have any sympathy to him as he has killed many christians and hindus. Inspite of knowing this, these congress politicians worship him. Do they know the history or just appeasement politics? J.R. Lobo and Ivan Dsouza need to shed some light on this..

    ..first of all is it allowed to put statue or photos of Tipu if we go by his religion or the present govt which rallies behind his religion while faking secularism.. instead of statue, it will be great justice to Tipu, if this Govt find out where his present family members, in which condition, are they getting any kind of govt honorarium..while a one day MLA will get life time Govt pension & benifits..

    I find it hard to understand, why this keeps happening all the time. If A supposedly has wronged B, then why should everyone else pay the price. First by blocking the road, burning tires restricting the flow of traffic, staging angry protest, thereby bringing tension to the whole town. There is Manasvi Hospital just opposite the circle, what if there is an emergency and someone wants to go to the hospital, but can't get there because the roads are blocked, as tires are burning and there's an angry protest? Please prove you'll are peaceful peace by simply taking pictures from your mobile phone, lodging a police complain, and let the police do their jobs.
